H ow many of us need to hear this?
We all seem to be rushing around in our lives right now. It has become not just the new normal, but the new status symbol. “I’m just too busy to connect right now”. Rushing is evidence that we are important, or needed, or irreplaceable – or something.
But it is also saying that we aren’t important enough to ourselves … to take the time that we need to refuel, reconnect and (re)center.
I did a recent experiment, as part of homework commitment to a CTI course, about taking time in the morning for a centering walk. Time for me. Time to connect with myself, my heart, my higher power. Time to STOP the busy-ness of my brain and to stop rushing and to just find that stillpoint inside myself.
Here is the irony. I had promised to complete and post the result of the homework, in the form of this blog post, but in order to get that done I would have had to rush, be harried, and to not enjoy the process, not savour it, but just “get it done”. Well that is the very thing I am moving away from – thank you very much.
So what did I do? I redesigned. I changed my mind and changed my commitment to be something more realistic, for me. So that I could actually do the assignment (felt a bit like Mission Impossible) in the spirit that it was intended. How often do we let that go, the spirit of a commitment? How often are we getting something done, but without heart, without meaning? Leaving our lives to be one big, long “trying hard”. Ugh. That is not how I want to live this precious life. That is not the reason I quit my job.
So it is time for me, as much as for all of us, to STOP. STOP the rushing, and STOP taking on too much, and STOP just getting by. And to start savouring, starting being real about what is possible and what is important and then to start living in alignment with that.
And I will continue to find the ways to STOP rushing, and to make time for myself. To create more of an experience of spaciousness and stillness. Because without making that significant choice – all of my other choices are restricted. And I am all about the choice.
What choices will you make for yourself?
What will you STOP?
What will you start?
How will that change your life?
