Rest Stop #2: France

Ok, let’s be honest. France wasn’t really a rest stop. But it was the catalyst for my month of exploration and rejuvenation, because I was asked to give a keynote for Capgemini. And of course I said yes!

The location and the event space itself was beautiful. And it’s only one of the things that blew me away about Capgemini …  that they’ve created this amazing learning space for people. Talk about a commitment to doing things differently and calling people forth to the next level of leadership! I felt very privileged and honoured to be invited to do this speech and to get to speak to their high-potential leaders.

Rest Stop #1: Iceland

Some of you may know that I recently took a break to travel to Europe. Since my Dad passed away last year I’ve had a really difficult time working my way through my grief. One of the goals I set after he died was to travel more. And I realized that it’s been about 10 years or more since I really took a proper rest. Needless to say I was SO excited when my work presented an opportunity for me to travel to France and deliver a keynote session for Capgemini.

Of course I had to say yes! And I had to make the most of the opportunity. So I blocked off my calendar for an entire month (yes, really!), left my laptop at home (GASP!) and set off.

How to Promote Greater Connection

How can you live in a way, day in and day out, that promotes greater connection?

If you haven’t already figured it out with my posts on  and  connection, here’s some more on why it’s important to live from this place of connection.

How to promote greater connection

It’s not just about the selfish benefit that comes when we’re feeling closer and tighter and part of something. It actually comes down to the fact that our world needs us to be more connected.

Many of the ills of the world today are instigated by the fact that we don’t see ourselves in other human beings. We don’t trust our IGS (Inner Guidance System) and we don’t realize that we’re part of something bigger. The wars that are raging throughout this world, right now as you read this very sentence, are happening because fundamentally we have lost sight of the fact that we are all one. Killing your enemy in the Middle East is no different than killing your brother or sister or killing yourself. It is born of separation and it leads to separation; but separation is a lie!

On the other hand, we see the fundamental truth of connection in the global reactions when huge catastrophes happen in our world. Such as the recent earthquake in Nepal or tsunamis hitting the shores of Japan in years past. During these times we naturally reach out to help our brothers and sisters and we remember that their misfortune and that our blessings are random and universal. When we see these other peoples’ suffering, we realize that they are us and that they’re no different from us. Read More >>>

3 Areas to Look for Connection

It’s interesting because when I think about our lives in terms of connection, there seems to be a common (mis)understanding that connection happens to us. Like it’s something that is somehow externally created or driven. We make the assumption that because someone grows up in a close-knit community, connection (at least with that community) is easy. Connection is easy, like they learned how to do it, and they already have their connections, all sewn up. Or if they have a close-knit family, same thing… connection is easy. If they attended the same school for a long time, connection is easy. And if you don’t have any of those structures, connection is hard, if not impossible for you…

But we don’t realize how much connection is a choice and that we actually have to make ourselves open to it! (Yes, this is the ‘Choose Connection’ post, how did you guess?!?)

connect

When I look at choosing connection it is about opening our hearts, and that can be hard and scary for people, especially if they’ve been hurt (in love relationships, in friendships, or by people who were supposed to be trustworthy). Connection is still a choice, even for them. Sure, there is a likely a first step of mending their heart, but it’s such a worthy step!

My Strategies for Being Powerfully Connected

This month’s theme is …connected. While I know that connected means different things for different people, for me it means being connected to everything: my higher power, myself, my own inner truth and voice, my community, my dear friends, my family (in particular my father, who recently passed), the planet and ideally, one day connected with my partner. (Not because I’m not connected with him currently, but because I don’t have one!).

connection, connect, powerfully, being

Recently, I’ve been re-reading The Desire Map by Danielle LaPorte. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s all about refocusing ourselves to orient our yearning or experience towards a feeling, rather than a goal that is outside of us. Connected is my most Core Desired Feeling.

The experience of connected is one where I feel a sense of oneness. Where I don’t notice the separation between me and the ‘outside’ (whether outside is the earth, my higher power or someone else). I feel gratitude and inner-peace. My heart feels open to anything and everything and I fully trust how things are unfolding. I buzz with joy and bliss! It’s pretty freaking sweet!

The value in being connected might be self-evident, but when I remember that I’m one with everything my world opens up and I become of true service. tweety bird Read More >>>
