When we’re looking at choose, as it relates to legacy, I think there’s a lot of people that think legacy is just something that happens to you. When you look back at your life, you think “huh, what impact did I have? ” but like everything else, it’s something that you can get conscious about and make choices around. In other words, don’t let your legacy happen to you. CHOOSE your legacy!
It’s kind of like those books we read as kids – the choose your own adventure books, where you’re reading along, and at the end of a chapter it said you could either turn to page 59 or page 73, and depending on which page you chose, you got a different outcome. This is that same thing, only with your life. For realzies!!
So how do you choose?
Step 1 – Get conscious. It’s not just about being on autopilot. The first part is to get clear on what’s important to you … not the day to day stuff … not even just goals … but something bigger. Like if you could leave one message for the world, if you could have one thing written on your tombstone, if there’s one thing that you would take a stand for, what’s that thing? For me, it’s about demanding that people choose fully alive starting now! I’m so committed to this idea that people live their lives with meaning, purpose and passion, and that they engage fully and do it every single day, starting NOW. What’s your thing?
Step 2 – Notice what the world is calling out for right now. The way you’ll notice, is what are the current hot topics? The environment, gender equality, diversity, global responsibility … beyond environmental concerns, it’s like how can we as a globe be taking care of the displaced Syrian refugees? What is our responsibility to these people we’ve never met, and in some cases have very little in common with? The world is calling out for people to care for more than just themselves, more than just their families, and even more than just their countries.
Step 3 – Find the intersection place. Where does your passion intersect with what the world is hungering for right now? For me, it was cancer – how cancer is becoming an epidemic these days, affecting people younger and younger. And so the natural intersection for me is living fully alive as soon as possible. So all the work that I do, the coaching work that I do, the speaking work that I do, the products I create, are all about people living fully alive as soon as possible, so that every minute of their life is maximized (by the way, maximized can also involve having a pedicure, it’s not just about being in action). That’s why I want to do more speaking and create more products, because I want to reach more people faster, because this is urgent!! My life matters, and your life matters, and it matters starting now!
Ok, over to you:
If you could choose any legacy for yourself, what would it be?
