What Does it Feel Like?

As I do every year … did the Run for the Cure again this last weekend. And while I don’t dig the monetization of cancer, there is plenty that I do dig …

I LOVE that this is an event that is dedicated to ALIVENESS. To supporting, calling forth, even demanding … that people BE FULLY ALIVE, that they choose IN: to life, to activities, to exercise, to supporting those with cancer. What’s not to love about that?

Each year leading up to it I feel meh … like, really, am I going to do this again?

And then each year, when I get down there and I look into the faces of the fighters, the survivors (you can usually tell the difference by their hair length), and the supporters, the people that love someone who is fighting or has fought their way out of cancer’s nasty grip – I am, once again, moved to tears, of joy and gratitude, that we talk about this disease, that we don’t behave like it is something to hide, or something to be ashamed of, or something to face alone.

NO.

This is an amazing 12,000+ community of people that say … you can do it, I know you can, and I will stand along side you as you do. I have got  your back.

That is something I can get behind.

To get a feeling of what it was like … check out this 30 second video of me describing what the experience was like for me.

What does it mean to LIVE?

So the final pillar of Signýficant Living (which you will recall is to consciously and fearlessly live a life of meaning, passion and purpose) is … well … LIVE.

Share who you are with the world!

Share who you are with the world! Proudly.

I’m talking about living your life out loud (not hiding your light under a bushel). Sharing who you are with the world (whatever part of the world feels right for you, that is). Proudly. And with umph. Bringing all of you, not just the part that seems acceptable. Living true to yourself, who you really are, in line with what is really important to you, so that this life has meaning, and is on purpose for you. So that each day is fulfilling, not just when you reach some lofty goal, but now, right … NOW.

What are you CHOOSING?

Last week I promised some thinking on this, the next element of Signýficant Living, CHOOSE.

choices_webChoose seems pretty simple. It’s defined as: to select by preference, the best or most appropriate, from a number of possibilities.

In this definition what I dig the most is that it’s about preference. What you most prefer. Picking what works best for YOU. Because that’s what choosing should be all about.

What I’m talking about, in Signýficant Living (which you will recall is to consciously and fearlessly choose to live a life of meaning, passion and purpose) is both the way you choose and what you choose. I am talking about the decision to choose IN, to choose life, to choose to be wide-awake and as present as you can be, to choose to live every moment of your life FULLY.

Clearly, that is a radical act.

#StepIntoGreatness – Create Your Roadmap

Today’s #StepIntoGreatness is about creating your roadmap!

Like with any successful journey, we need to have an idea of how to start moving toward the destination, or in this case the dream! In order for us to recognize the path to our dreams, we need to have clear markers along the way.

YOU are the one who gets to decide what those markers are, and how you want to celebrate achieving them.

I wanted to get this out yesterday, but technical difficulties coupled with challenging travel plans have waylaid my best intentions… so here, for your viewing entertainment (and progress along the journey of stepping into your greatness), is this week’s video – on Wednesday.

#StepIntoGreatness – My Dreaming Response

Yesterday’s #StepIntoGreatness topic is so important and close to my heart that I’ve created a follow up… which is my response, I’m expressing my dream and actually saying it out loud! It feels super vulnerable and scary to be doing this, but I know great things will come from it.

I’m inviting you to join me in expressing your dream. I’d love for you to quickly film yourself talking about your dream and post it to the Facebook Page. If you feel like video is too much, please leave a comment! My goal is to have us all sharing our dreams and encouraging each other along the way.

#StepIntoGreatness: Dreaming

Sometimes we forget to dream because we’re so busy with our day to day life… but, dreaming is the first step towards stepping into our greatness.

In this video I talk about remembering how to dream and some actions you can take around dreaming.

I promised that I would be vulnerable and real, so tomorrow I’m going to post a video with my dream and my greatness that I want to step into.

Last Day – First Day

As the world transitioned from April to May I made a much bigger transition. I went from my last day as an employee (granted only 3 days a week) in a J-O-B to being a fully self-employed consultant/coach/life changer/magic maker. And boy it feels good. Not that it will always feel good, necessarily, and I am painfully aware of the challenges and pit falls of being self-employed (not least of which is the always hustling feeling and the loneliness), but today, on May 1st, my first day driving this new course, it feels mighty freeing.

Yesterday was a different story. I was frantic, disassociated, spacy, overwhelmed – all, as I tried to get through the mountain of pieces that I needed to close up in order to move on. Now I didn’t get them all closed up (and thank goodness I have such a fantastic – now former – employer and boss that I am able to take the time to close out properly), and some might say because of that I don’t get to fully move on, but I don’t mind the slow transition. And I can feel the change in me: change of perspective, change of focus and change of direction. This is new.

Wanting MORE

Ok, just got some painful feedback, not that receiving it was painful, but the truth of it is painful.

This related to my last post.

I don’t want enough, either often enough or grandly enough. Or maybe “desire” is a better word. But either way I don’t put myself out enough, don’t ask for what is in my heart enough. Somewhere along the road I decided that wanting less would make me more desirable. Would make me easier (because let’s face it, I wasn’t that easy in my youth). It is one of the ways that I play small and try to chop off my toes and my heels to fit into the Cinderella shoes.

IT WAS A LIE!!! And worse than that… it was a lie that I told myself.

Chemotherapy

Sept 6, 2001 was the day of my last round (god willing forever) of chemotherapy. It was a good day, and a hard day. By this time I was completely bald, exhausted, unable to sleep or eat. They had told me that chemotherapy was cumulative. I didn’t really understand what they meant. I mean I understood it, but I didn’t get it, how it would feel, what it would really be like in my body. And I am such a body person, that is where it really comes home for me.

So anyway, they were right, and it was hard.Read More >>>

Belonging vs. Fitting In

I know that all my blogs seem to be related to Brene Brown’s book The Gifts of Imperfection, but I gotta tell you, it is because the book is gold!! Every page, every chapter – new magical discoveries or confirmation of what I know in my heart to be true. Why fight that, really?

And so, without further ado… the topic of fitting in vs. belonging.
