In many ways this is the new year. Spring, a new start. Astrologically we are back at the beginning with Aries. One of the two days when the day and the night are equal. It is a special time, filled with magic, if we want to tap into it. What we plant now (literally and figuratively) will grow for the next 6 months. it will start as what seems like a small inconsequential thing, but will blossom, bloom, mature, ripen, and become what it was always supposed to be, it’s magnificent self. So I ask you again … what do you want to create, to intend, to draw into your life? Which of your heart’s desires do you want to grow?
It’s a perfect month to tell you this story, because we’ve been talking about growth – and how to make room for it. An amazing opportunity to do a keynote address in Europe came my way recently. The topic they wanted me to speak on was authenticity and leadership. I was totally excited about it: it’s completely in my wheelhouse, it’s the stuff I love talking about, it’s totally on brand for me … except there was one problem … if I got offered this opportunity and took it, it would mean I would have to jam on a day-long commitment with one of my biggest clients. What’s a gal to do?
I am SO easily hooked by the next new, exciting thing, that of course I had to throw my hat in the ring. But I felt such a weight of responsibility and anxiety around the choice that I was going to have to make. And then the waiting began.
So of course my energy was a little bit muddled, the result of which, and the response from the universe, was that it took even longer to hear back from these people, which got me more and more anxious and muddled. Eventually in a fit of clarity, I pounded off an email saying that while I was excited about the opportunity, I was probably going to have to withdraw my candidacy in order to honour my commitment to my other client. Not an hour later, I got an email from this amazing and exciting opportunity, in which the woman tells me that she would love to have me, but would I be open to coming two months later? Hallelujah, praise the lord! You better believe I am open to that sister! And I suddenly felt so much lighter and like the clouds had parted, and the sun was shining.
When we take the time to get clear on what we want, and we put the full force of action behind it, the universe can’t help but meet us more than halfway. And so I’ll have one more reason to go to Europe in May!
Growth happens naturally. At this time of year, all the plants (at least in Vancouver!) are pushing up through the soil. It’s in their DNA (do plants have DNA?!) … ok it’s in their make up … they can’t help but grow, and so the universe can’t help but give us our heart’s desires, when we’re clear and consistent about our longing for them.
If you want to grow your heart’s desires into reality, you need to:
- Plant a seed – Be the empty container, or the ready field. You need to ready yourself so that the seed can come to you. The desires that have the most potential for growth are the ones that come from a deeper place – not from an intellectual, forcing, grasping place, but from a yearning, spacious, open place.
- Nurture the seed – give it what it needs – clarity, consistency, yearning.
- Let it grow – get out of the way. Let the universe take care of the details of “how”.
Ok, over to you:
