How to CHOOSE Your Battles

The theme this month is resilience. Resiliency is that elasticity that allows us to bounce back after a trying time. By experiencing our emotions more intensely, we have the ability to recover faster.

How to choose your battles 2.0

After reading that last post, you may have found yourself thinking, “If I’m working through the emotions of every problem that comes my way, I won’t have time for anything else!” Fair enough! (Not to mention that it would be exhausting!)

Choose wisely. Pick the things that will make the most difference. Read More >>>

5 Steps to a Resilient Recuperation

The theme this month is resilience! It’s something we need in so many aspects of our lives, particularly when going through any sort of recuperation.

5 steps to a resilient recovery 2.0

Resilient:

  1. the power or ability to return to the original form, position, etc., after being bent, compressed, or stretched; elasticity.
  2. ability to recover readily from illness, depression, adversity, or the like; buoyancy.

To me, the word that stands out most in that definition is elasticity. Resiliency is elasticity. It is the bouncing back after a struggle. And let’s face it, difficult times are going to happen to all of us, no matter how we try to avoid them. The important part is to be resilient.

How do you handle difficult times and the associated loss, disappointment or frustration? Read More >>>

Resilient Women Kick-Ass

International-Womens-Day-LogoI just want to give a huge shout out to the resilient women in the world that have created the option for today’s women to lead the lives that we do. With International Women’s Day yesterday, there seems to be no better way of kicking off the theme of ‘Resilience’ this month.

These women that I’m talking about are the ones that were shut down, and in some cases shot down, yet always stood back up and kept fighting. The suffragettes, the Rosie the Riveters, the female soldiers, the female politicians, the female CEOs, the list goes on… Those women across history and across cultures that have shown their strength time and time again in the fight for something better; something better not just for themselves, but for you and me as well.

Here’s to resilient women! tweety bird

Annie_Kenney_and_Christabel_PankhurstSuffragettes, particularly in the UK, were often seen as the objects of ridicule, just more whiny women. (When haven’t we heard that before?!) Their hunger strikes and protests were simply interpreted as further evidence that women were too emotional and couldn’t think as logically as men. The very word suffragette was intended to be derogatory, but those women turned it right around saying that they were the “suffraGETtes”.

How were these women able to be so resilient? Amongst a million personality strengths there are two things that stand out:Read More >>>

BC Women Leading Us To Our Big Visions

What if we were all living our Signýficant Contribution? walking-349991_1280

Humour me for a minute and picture a world where you’re doing exactly what you want.

Imagine a world where all of us are on purpose and in action around our purpose. tweety bird

How might our lives be different? How might the world be different?

This is exactly what I’m so pumped to be talking about on March 26th at this year’s BC Women Lead Conference. I seriously can’t wait to get there and see what a room of 200+ women will uncover on this topic!

This year’s conference theme ‘Big STEPS –Big VISION’ fits perfectly with my ‘Participation is Mandatory’ philosophy.

We have to be active participants to create the life we want. tweety bird

That only happens through the choices we make in our lives every day, day after day.

It makes sense then that the topic of my keynote is ‘Participation is Mandatory’. It’s all about how you can be active and engaged in your life.  As I’m prepping for this presentation I’m doing a ton of reading on destiny and prioritization. Two of the key things I’m going to be touching on are:

  •  choosing the relevant priorities for the life you want
  •  calling you forth to your Signýficant Contribution

How to Stop Running on Empty

Tell me if this sounds anything like you:

You shoulder a large chunk of responsibility at home. You’re often the one that colleagues turn to for completion of a task, because they know that you’ll get it done and done well at that. You’re often the one seeking to strengthen relationships with those closest to you. On top of all that, your community knows you as one they can rely on to sit on the committee for ‘X’ or volunteer at event ‘Y’. You’ve got a lot on your plate and it just doesn’t stop coming!

You’re doing it all!

And the likely reality is that it’s starting to cost you… your life, your sanity and most importantly your relationships with those near and dear to you.

But what do you do about it when you feel like everything is resting on you and you alone?  What do you do when life has become a drudgery with endless to do lists and that constant scrambling ‘catch-up’ feeling? When you’re so overwhelmed and burdened that you can’t even find enough time in your busy schedule to figure out how to fix it, what do you do?

This Free E-Book is perfect for you or anyone you know that might also be running on empty!

Stop Hiding Your Passion

4-LiveOver the past month we’ve worked through understanding passion. We addressed the 3 Components of BEing a Passionate Person. You journaled your way through CHOOSING your passions. The last step? LIVE your passion. (Read more on my Signýficant Living framework here, here and here.)

The reality is that most of us have at least one passion that we’ve been hiding from the world. What I’m pushing you towards today is to take the tough step of revealing and really, truly celebrating your passions now; even the ones that you’re a little bit shy about, or dare I say it, ashamed of.

Hopefully through the journaling you did last week you were able to discover what that passion is. Maybe you’re a closet Trekkie and you’ve had a lifelong dream of attending a conference full of other Trekkies just like you. Or maybe you’ve got a grand vision for starting an NGO, but the overwhelming mountainous size of the task has prevented you from admitting this dream to others.

Think through these questions (use this journal guide to help):Read More >>>

10 Critical Questions to Prioritize Your Passions

QQQ35We, as the successful super-achievers that we are, have a tendency to take on a lot. We say “yes” at work, we say “sure” at home and we get excited by every new book or hobby that crosses our paths. We just don’t want to turn stuff down. Reality check: we can’t do it all!

To live Fully Alive, you have to choose your passions. tweety bird

Some passions need to be culled. Maybe they aren’t relevant for you right now. Maybe they’re wasting too much of your energy. Maybe they aren’t helping to drive you in the direction you are trying to go. A passion list will fluctuate as you go through life, situations change, and priorities change. It’s important to take time and figure out which ones are right for you, now. (Yup, there’s that word again!)

Which ones to cull? (I once had a slip of the tongue and said ‘kill’ instead of ‘cull’ I liked it, and it’s kind of stuck! Use the word that works best for you). As I said, your passions will change with time, but the best strategy for choosing which passions are true for you now is to break down the process a little more. Think of it as three steps:

  • List your passions
  • Cull your list
  • Prioritize  your remaining passions

I’ve found that it really helps to put pen to paper when working through a process like this. So download this journal sheet and print off a copy to guide you.

These 10 critical questions should really help you with culling/killing your passion list:Read More >>>

The 3 Components of BE-ing a Passionate Person

2-UniqeLast week, I jammed on how passion is more than just the domain of lovers. A passionate person shows passion so many other ways though! Passion is the juice that has us be alive and it should be something that is invited into our lives every single day.

One of the key facets of being passionate is being in the right relationship with yourself and honouring who you are now. Not an easy thing to consistently do, so I’ve broken it down into three components to help you out. (I’d call them steps, but really there’s no order to them, they can all be done at once if you wanted!)

  • Connect with your ‘-ness’: What makes you your unique-ass self? My Signý-ness is that I’m bold, fiery and I don’t hold back! It’s that thing I got in trouble for as a kid. Your ‘-ness’ might also be that thing that got you into trouble.  And likely, your ‘-ness’ is also that thing that is so you people have a hard time thinking of you in any other way. So figure out what your ‘-ness’ is. Connect with this side of yourself and really start to embrace it. Honour it. Love it.

Be your unique-ass self! tweety birdRead More >>>

Passion: Not Just For Lovers

1-Passion-juice

Passion is one of those words we hear a lot this time of year. It gets wrapped up with all of those Valentine-y things like: a dozen roses, a box of chocolates, date nights, sexual desire, romance and love. As in romantic love. Now don’t get me wrong, a huge part of romantic love is passion, but what I’m saying is that passion is something bigger, something not simply reserved for couples or Valentine’s Day. Passion is for all of us, always.

Passion is that inexplicable fire that drives us. It is the thing that gets us to put all of our energy into a task. It is what guides us in our decision-making. It is what pushes us to our purpose. It is both a key ingredient and a key outcome of fully alive.

Passion is the juice that has us be fully alive and it should be something that is invited into our lives daily! tweety bird
